This concept of consistency should also apply to control and edge implementation principles. Deterministic control is very different from general analysis and edge calculation. For performance and network security reasons, the two domains should remain separate, but can safely cooperate with each other.The deterministic side operates in a specific so-called guard rail to ensure safe and robust operation of the system. The logic program often changes, because it is production oriented, so it should be isolated from potential risk external influences, such as plant network and Internet connection. It needs to be tailored for ot personnel, who are usually more familiar with ladder logic and IEC language than it programming.Edge computing and iiot environments are configured in other more it centric languages, such as python, c++ and related applications. This aspect is not only oriented to the Internet (so network defense must be provided), but also develops rapidly, and should be easier to update without affecting deterministic operations. However, the edge computing task must be able to safely interact with the deterministic side to collect data and provide operation setting updates.

A comprehensive automation product portfolio should include deterministic control, edge computing, i/o, security, and even motion control products designed for collaborative work. Users should only need to learn how to use a set of development software, so that they can consistently carry out deterministic programming and deploy it on an appropriate scale platform. Similarly, whether deployed on edge controllers, IPC or servers, edge code and applications, or HMI Software suites that support edges, should run consistently.
